Bibles sent to mourning Alexandria families

The Shreveport Police Department is sending two Bibles to the family members of two fallen Alexandria Police Department officers.

The New International Version Bibles were donated by the International Conference of Police Chaplains. They are dedicated in memory of Charles D. Ezernack and Jeremy Carruth.

Ezernack and Carruth were killed in February while trying to arrest a man who had previously shot at another officer in Alexandria.

The incident prompted a large-scale shootout with the suspect that involved officers from several police agencies firing hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Shreveport officers have been wearing black bands on their badges in memory of the officers. Whenever an officer is killed in the line of duty, no matter where they are, it affects all officers as if it happened here.

On March 13, Shreveport officers got in a shootout with armed men who had robbed an armored car. SPD Cpl. Mark Sharbono was shot in the arm and is recovering at home from his injuries.
