Boy shot by sister, investigation underway
A 10-year-old boy receive a life-threatening gunshot wound after his 13-year-old sister reportedly took the loaded weapon away from him.
The incident occurred in the 3100 block of Woodford Street just after 1 p.m. today.
The two youths were at home with another adult when the boy reportedly saw strangers in the front yard. He retrieved a handgun from inside the home. When he did, his sister took it away from him. Somehow the gun discharged, striking the boy once.
The boy and girl ran down the street, where someone in a private automobile picked up the boy and transported him to LSU Hospital.
An investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the shooting and whether any criminal charges will be filed.
