A Shreveport Police sergeant has been asked by the family of a 10-year-old crash victim to serve as a pallbearer at the boy’s funeral today.
Sgt. Jonathan Reich was a supervisor at the scene of the incident, which occurred Sunday evening on Linwood Avenue at Oakdale.
The boy was struck and killed by an alleged drunk driver, who was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide.
The family asked that a police supervisor as well as firefighter serve at the funeral, which is set for 11 a.m. today at Boone Funeral Home Chapel, 3903 Meriwether Road in Shreveport.
Responding to tragic calls is part of the job for police officers, but the job can be especially challenging when the victims are children.
