Tasers to be issued Friday

The Shreveport Police Department will be issuing the first batch of Taser less lethal weapons beginning tomorrow at 9 a.m.

About 140 officers already have completed the Taser training and will begin picking up their Tasers at the Shreveport Regional Police Academy, 6440 Greenwood Road.

Pickup times are between 9 and 11 a.m. and noon to 3 p.m. Friday. The majority of officers who will be getting tasers first will be officers, corporals and sergeants. Most of them are assigned to patrol, but several jailers also will be receiving them. About 300 weapons have been ordered. As more arrive, they will be issued to officers who are certified to use them.
