Shreveport detectives have arrested one female and are looking for another in connection with four thefts of purses stolen from vehicles at day care centers.
Christina Ainsworth Cornelius, 23, of Denham Springs was arrested today and charged with four counts of vehicle burglary that occurred on March 5. Police received a tip that Cornelius was the suspect after the news showed a surveillance tape of one of the crimes. In the tape, a woman in a Chevy Avalanche drove up to a day care center and approached another vehicle where she is believed to have taken a purse.
Other similar cases are being examined, and Cornelius could face more criminal charges. Before today’s arrest, she was on probation for a similar incident in 2002 where she was convicted of taking a purse from a car in a daycare parking lot and using the victim's credit cards.
Police are looking for another woman in this case -- Margareta "Maggie" Meek, 24, of Shreveport. She is believed to have been involved in the March 5 incidents.
If anyone has information about this case, call Detective Shannon Mack at 673-6985 or Crime Stoppers at 673-7000.
