An 18-year-old Byrd High School student has been questioned and released after police investigated reports that he threatened to shoot his classmates.
The 18-year-old student was taken to the Shreveport Police Department for questioning this morning after police received a report that the student was planning to harm Byrd students today.
Numerous Shreveport police officers, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s deputies and Caddo Parish School security personnel were all at the school this morning in case there was validity to the report.
However, no weapon was found in the student’s possession, and the boy and his parents cooperated fully with investigators.
Rumors about the threats quickly circulated throughout the student body, prompting parents to pick up their students or call the school to question school staff.
Classes took place as scheduled.
"We take all incidents such as this very seriously," said Sgt. Jimmy Muller, supervisor in the Violent Crimes Unit. "At this time, it looks like rumors were the root cause of most of the commotion today. We have conducted a thorough investigation and have found nothing criminal at this time."
