A Shreveport man has been charged with two counts of purse snatching and one count of aggravated burglary for allegedly snatching the purses of elderly women outside the homes or businesses.
Tyrone Thomas, 34, is believed to have committed these crimes between Dec. 5, 2003, until his capture this week. Most of the victims were over the age of 80.
In most of the cases, Thomas preyed on elderly white females, some of whom were hurt during the commission of the crime.
In one of the cases, an 83-year-old woman’s arm was reportedly broken after Thomas pushed down the woman after she entered her home with groceries she had just purchased. In that case, he is charged with aggravated burglary.
Thomas also is accused of felony theft for stealing a vehicle from an apartment complex in the 8600 block of Millicent Way.
It is believed that Thomas has committed at least three other similar purse snatchings. The investigation is underway by members of the Armed Robbery Task Force.
