Juvenile taken into custody for stabbing

A 12-year-old boy stabbed a 12-year-old girl with scissors during a fight at Oak Park Elementary School this morning.

The girl was taken to LSU Hospital with a non life-threatening injury to her back. The boy was taken into custody for questioning and faces criminal charges.

The fight took place in an art classroom at the school, located in the 4100 block of McDaniel Street.

While the girl was being treated, her 18-year-old brother showed up at the school to find out what happened. As he was banging on a glass door to the office his fist went through it, causing cuts to his hand and arm. The fire department transported him to LSU for his injuries.

The male juvenile was charged with aggravated battery. The incident occurred in front of about a dozen other students.
