Shreveport Detective Patricia Lamotte has charged a 22-year-old Shreveport man with simple battery and child desertion for an incident that occurred early this morning.
Quenton Stokes is accused of leaving his girlfriend’s 15-month-old son in a child car seat, which was sitting in a parking garage at the United Jewelers Apartments downtown.
Police were called by a man who spotted the child about 2:35 a.m. It is unknown how long the child had been left alone in the garage. The child was not injured.
After searching the apartment complex for the boy’s family, his 28-year-old mother returned home and noticed emergency officials on scene.
The mother reportedly had left the child in the care of her live-in boyfriend, whom she had two separate arguments with earlier in the evening. It was during one of those arguments that Stokes reportedly picked her up and grabbed her in a violent manner, therefore prompting police to charge him with simple battery.
Child protection workers have now taken custody of the child. They will be working with the mother to return the boy to her.
Stokes was unemployed and oftentimes would babysit the child.
