Police are looking for a Shreveport man wanted for the aggravated rape, kidnaping and armed robbery of a 26-year-old female.
The Caddo Parish Grand Jury indicted 38-year-old Melvin Carter this week. He is accused of grabbing the woman at 3 a.m. April 8, 2003, in the 3300 block of North Market Street as she walked home from work.
Carter reportedly put an object to the woman’s head, pulled her into a drainage ditch and sexually assaulted her. He then robbed her of cash and fled through a wooded area.
DNA evidence collected helped connect Carter to the case. He also faces a possible rape charge for a similar incident that occurred in 1995 in a wooded area near the intersection of Hollywood and Jewella.
