FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Storms knock out power at major intersections

Shreveport police officers are working overtime to direct traffic at intersections where power was knocked out during overnight storms.

No injuries were reported, but strong winds blew roofs off of buildings and knocked down trees.

To respond to the storm’s affects, graveyard officers stayed on duty to assist morning shift officers with traffic direction.

Those intersections that are still without power as of 5 a.m. are:

    • Mansfield at West 70th Street

    • 6500 Hearne Avenue

    • Interstate 220 at Jefferson Paige Road

    • Hollywood at Linwood

    • La. 3132 at West 70th Street

    • Pierremont at Gilbert

    • 1300 Shreveport-Barksdale at the Barksdale Bridge

    • Spring and Lake Street

Drivers are reminded to treat intersections like a four-way stop when the traffic lights aren’t working or unless otherwise directed by police.

The latest report of trees that have fallen (based on citizens calls to Police Communications) include:

    • Columbia at Highland

    • Linwood at Union and 60th Streets

    • 200 Arthur

    • 6800 Broadacres

    • 105 Southfield

    • Spring between Lake and Crockett streets

Several thousand people were projected to have lost power during the overnight hours. While crews have been working to quickly restore that power, the following locations are currently without power:

    • The Pierremont area, including Pierremont at Gilbert

    • Sunset Acres

    • Ingleside/6300 Hearne

    • Masters Drive Subdivision/8200 Pines Road

    • 70th Street behind the Shreveport Regional Airport

According to reports to Police Communications, the Sunset Acres area was hit the hardest from the storms. Homes, churches and businesses saw broken windows and blown off roofs because of the high winds.

Anyone needing to report an emergency caused by the storm can call Police Communications at 673-7300.
