Shreveport police are looking for a man accused of abandoning and mistreating a horse.
Rickey Wayne Fairfax Jr., 26, of Salem, Missouri, is wanted for simple cruelty to animals for an incident that occurred Monday, June 7.
Fairfax is accused of riding the horse from the Double R Arena in Stonewall to the Walgreen’s store at 9209 Mansfield Road, where he tied the horse to a pole and left.
The horse was found with injuries to the neck and legs. The injuries were caused by an ailment called "Rode Founder," which is caused when a horse is overridden or overloaded.
The horse is an 8-year-old Palimino. Its owner is unknown.
Detective Shannon Mack has named the horse "Walgreen," which is now being cared for a the home of a sheriff’s deputy. The horse is being treated at the expense of the Hopeful Haven Equine Rescue Organization.
