FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Man killed, another injured in shooting

Shreveport police are investigating a shooting that killed a 19-year-old Shreveport man and injured another.

Rocky Gilyard reportedly drove up next to a vehicle containing 25-year-old Chevelle Hamilton of Shreveport at Market and Lake streets and began firing shots, striking Hamilton once in the buttocks. Hamilton then returned fire, striking Gilyard in the chest.

Gilyard left the scene, driving onto Interstate 20 west until he lost control of his vehicle at the Interstate 49 interchange.

Gilyard was transported to LSU Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

Meanwhile, Hamilton showed up at the hospital, where he was treated for a non life-threatening injury.

At this time, the shooting appears to be justifiable homicide. No charges have been filed.

It is unknown at this time what the shooting was about.
