Man dies in shooting at motel

A night of partying at a local motel ended up with the shooting death of a Shreveport man in the parking lot.

The incident occurred about 4:13 a.m. in the parking lot of the Pelican Inn, located in the 5200 block of Monkhouse Drive.

Lamarcus Ewing (known as Marcus Ewing), 17, died after being shot in the back by a 21-year-old black male. Investigators have determined that the two individuals, along with others, got into a fight over a couple of girls.

Ewing reportedly retrieved a gun from a vehicle and began fighting with one of the men. The suspect got control of the gun and fired it at Ewing, striking him in the back. The suspect then fled the scene.

Detectives will send the case to the district attorney’s office for screening to determine whether criminal charges should be filed.
