FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

SPD Supervisor Class Begins

Since Monday, September 13th all supervisors from Sergeants to the Chief with the Shreveport Police Department and some from outside agencies have been participating in a week long course designed to improve and challenge their supervisory and leadership skills.

The course, put on by The Institute of Law Enforcement Administration, Dallas, Texas and hosted by Shreveport Police Department, is part of Chief Campbell’s goals and objectives to increase and introduce progressive supervisory training of new and veteran supervisors for increased responsibilities and demands placed upon them.

The course is primarily designed for first-line supervisors, with an emphasis on the transition from "street cop" to "supervisor" and "street policing" to management and will address what it takes to become a professional supervisor, those techniques for managing personnel and assets, along with strategies for teaching, motivating and inspiring employees to achieve the next level, beyond duty.

This is the first of four courses scheduled for the department which will require every supervisor within the department to attend.
