Press Conference: Project Safe Neighborhood
On Thursday, September 30th at 2:30 pm in the Chief’s conference room, a press conference will be held to announce the accomplishments of Project Safe Neighborhood.
In May 2001, this project was supported by Grant No. 2003-GP-CX-0154 awarded by the Department of Criminal Justice Assistance under the administration of President George Bush to assist law enforcement agencies combat the rising use of guns in the commission of violent crimes.
Beginning in October 2003, Shreveport Police, Probation and Parole, the U.S. Attorney’s office, ATF & E and other agencies collaborated together to increase federal prosecutions and sentencing of violators under this grant. This program has had a major impact on the confiscation of weapons and drugs, the prosecution of suspects and the length of sentences imposed.
