FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Citizens Police Academy registration underway

The Shreveport Police Department will begin its 27th session of the Citizens Police Academy on February 1st at the Shreveport Police Training Academy. The classes will be held once a week from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., for ten weeks. Participants will meet with officers from all aspects of the department, to include detectives, crime scene investigators, narcotics personnel, mounted patrol, and K9 officers. Participants will also meet with the command staff of the police department to gain a better understanding of how the police department functions and to express their concerns directly to police management.

There are many hands on activities during the Academy in which participants will get a chance to drive a police car, shoot a handgun, and participate in handling mock calls in the same manner as a police officer. The academy is open to anyone who lives or has a business in Shreveport. Members of community groups, neighborhood watch groups, civic organizations or anyone interested in learned more about how the police department operates are encouraged to attend. The class size is limited and applications are accepted on a first come, first serve basis. There are still some slots available for the upcoming class. There is no cost to attend the Citizens Police Academy.

AThis is a wonderful opportunity for us to interact with members of the community who are interested in working with us to improve the quality of life for all of us in Shreveport@, said Chief Campbell. AWe learn as much from the citizens who attend this class about citizen expectations as they learn from us about how the department functions@, he added.

If you are interested in attending, contact the Shreveport Police Department at 673-6950 and they will assist you in applying.
