Shooter Arrested

Shreveport Police detectives have arrested a man for attempted second-degree murder in connection with a shooting that occurred in the 3700 block of Huston about 10:30 last night.

John Edmond, 51, of Shreveport was arrested today in connection with the shooting that injured 22-year-old Marquita Bates of Shreveport. Bates, who is four-months pregnant, was shot in the abdomen and in the upper chest.

The shooting took place as Bates was walking on Huston Street. The suspect reportedly came from a wooded area and fired shots in the direction of Bates and another person who was walking with her.

The victim is currently in stable condition in ICU at LSU Hospital. Her unborn child is still alive.

A motive for the shooting is still being investigated.
