Shreveport Teacher arrested

Shreveport Police have arrested a middle school teacher on a charge of harassing phone calls for a cell phone call made to a student at another school.

Vicki Garland, 51, of Benton was booked into the City Jail this afternoon for an incident that occurred May 16. The parents of the 16-year-old boy filed a police report after hearing a voice mail message left on the boy's cell phone. The message threatened bodily harm to the student if he didn't leave his ex-girlfriend alone. The call allegedly was made to the boy during the teacher's class in front of other students.

Garland's attorney brought her to SPD today. Harassing phone calls is a misdemeanor punishable by a $500 fine and/or six months in jail.
