Shreveport Police investigate officer involved crash

Shreveport Police are currently investigating an incident that occurred late Saturday night involving a suspect who was struck by a marked patrol unit while fleeing from police officers.

At approximately 10:45 p. m. Saturday night, Shreveport Police patrol officer Daniel Chumley, a one year veteran of the department, observed a maroon mini- van engaged in what he believed to be criminal activity. Officer Chumley initiated a field investigation and the mini- van sped away in an apparent attempt to flee from the officer. During this flight, the driver of the van lost control of the vehicle and subsequently abandoned it. As the driver of the van fled on foot, he was struck by Officer Chumley’s patrol unit.

The driver of the mini- van, who has been identified as 44 year old David Kyle of the 8000 blk. of Hobbs St. in Shreveport, was transported to LSUHSC by the Shreveport Fire Department, where he is listed in critical condition.

Officer Chumley has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation, which is standard procedure.

This incident is being investigated by Shreveport Police detectives and crash investigators.
