VICE Operation nets 10 men

Shreveport Police Department's Vice Unit, with the assistance of the Caddo-Shreveport Narcotics Unit, arrested 10 men today after they exposed themselves or propositioned undercover officers for sex.

The operation took place at Hamel's Park and C. Bickham Dickson Park. The Department has received numerous complaints of men frequenting these parks and soliciting other men for sex. Some of these complaints came from families who were in the park, and while there, witnessed some of this activity taking place.

The Department periodically conducts these operations to curb this illegal activity. The Vice Unit routinely monitors both parks, as they are known to attract this type activity from time to time.

7 people were charged with obscenity while 2 men were charged with sexual battery for inappropriately touching one of the officers. Another man was taken into custody on warrants for traffic violations. At least one of the men arrested had been arrested in the park before and admitted to being HIV positive.

Those arrested for obscenity were:

* Raymond Beals, 58, of Stonewall.

* Tony Cheatham, 55, of Bossier City.

* James K. Grimes 50, of Shreveport.

* John W. McNair, 45, of Shreveport.

* Sidney Williams, 51, of Shreveport.

* John L. Walette, 44, of Shreveport

* Billy McAdams, 49, of Center Texas

Others arrested and their charges were:

* Stephen Mayfield, 43, of Shreveport, sexual battery.

* Samuel Thomasson, warrants for traffic violations.

* John L. Mosely, 34, of Shreveport, sexual battery
