Burglary suspect identified

A man who broke into a small tax and gun repair shop and was fatally shot by the business owner overnight has been identified.

The deceased is Eric Bryant, 19, of Shreveport.

Bryant is believed to have crawled through a window of the business located in the 4500 block of Rightway. His presence in the building triggered a silent alarm. The alarm company called the business owner, who lives next door. The owner armed himself and went to check on the business.

After reaching the back part of the building, the 74-year-old business owner located Bryant hiding in the bathroom. When Bryant stood up, the business owner shot him once in the chest.

Bryant was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was taken by the Caddo Parish Coroner's Office for autopsy.

At this time, no charges will be filed against the business owner. However, the case will be sent to the district attorney's office for review.
