Shreveport police have arrested one man and are looking for two others in connection with an incident that occurred this evening. Ahmad King, 20, of Shreveport was booked in Shreveport City Jail on a charge of attempted aggravated battery on a police officer. (Photo not available) King is accused of attempting to let loose a pit bulldog on an officer in the 3100 block of Frederick Street about 5 p.m. today. After King was unsuccessful in letting the dog loose, another man was able to free the dog, who then charged the officer. The officer had to shoot the dog as it grabbed hold of her leg. The dog subsequently died as a result of the shooting. The man who successfully released the dog ran away from the scene, and the officer was treated for injuries to her leg. The whole situation began when officers went to the scene to locate the suspect of a armed robbery of an individual that occurred on July 18. The robbery suspect fled and has not been located. (His name cannot be released at this time because of the ongoing investigation). After the first dog was shot, Caddo Parish Animal Control was called to the scene and was in the process of rounding up a dozen other viscious pit bulls when one of the dogs went to attack the animal control officer. A second Shreveport Police officer had to discharge his weapon against the dog to stop the threat. That dog also died at the scene. The pit bulldogs that were seized are believed to be trained defense dogs, which are commonly used at locations where illegal drugs are sold. The investigation into this incident continues. Anyone with information about the outstanding suspects are asked to call Crime Stopppers at 673-7373 or Police at 673-7300. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.ci.shreveport.la.us/dept/police/spdnews |
