SPD Mourns loss of Officer

Shreveport Police Department is mourning the loss of one its own today, after an on-duty officer was found unresponsive in his patrol car and subsequently died.

Adam Wilson, 30, of Shreveport, had reportedly returned to his patrol car after checking on an elderly relative in the 3300 block of Darien Street. A neighbor, noticing that the patrol car had not moved, went to check on the officer and found him unresponsive. Officers and members of the Shreveport Fire Department arrived on scene and immediately began CPR, but the officer reportedly was in full cardiac arrest upon arrival at Willis-Knighton Medical Center on Greenwood Road.

Wilson was pronounced dead at 5:17 p.m. He had begun his shift at 3 p.m.

The cause of Wilson's death is under investigation. At this time, there is no reason to suspect foul play.

Wilson had been with the Shreveport Police Department since Aug. 1, 2005. He is married and has three girls, ages 1, 7 and 9.

He is a former Marine and was in excellent shape. He ran regularly and was a leading physical training recruit as a member of the 54th Class of the Shreveport Regional Police Academy.

He enjoyed fishing, video games and being Dad to his three girls.

"We are shocked and saddened by Officer Wilson's death. Our hearts go out to his family and co-workers," Chief Mike Campbell said. "His death will be a loss to the department and to the citizens we serve. He will be sorely missed."
