Shreveport Police Dept. Phone: 318/673-6932 Fax: 318/673-6933 Contact: Kacee Hargrave, Public Information Officer FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
This Labor Day weekend, a gem in the City of Shreveport should be shining brighter than ever. Hamel's Park, located south on Clyde Fant Parkway on the Shreveport riverfront, has a clean, cleared look about it that is not only designed to attract visitors, but keep them safer as well. Crews have worked hard to remove thick brush from the area, clearing it so that officers and passersby have a better view of the park and the river. So far, the improvements have made a big difference as far as safety is concerned. Not only can officers better monitor what happens there, it keeps illegal activities from inhabiting the area. Officers, who have noticed improved visibility at the park, will again be out this weekend, periodically checking on the area to make sure it is a safe, clean, family environment. "The reason for clearing it was to make it a safer, more inviting environment," said Shelly Ragle, director of SPAR. "It is hoped that our citizens will use it responsibly and follow the rules marked on posted signs." The public is reminded that no motor vehicles are allowed on the sandbar and should remain on the pavement at the park. Trash cans have been placed to make throwing away garbage quick and easy. -spd- View all SPD press releases at www.ci.shreveport.la.us/dept/police/spdnews |
