Accident turns fatal

A major accident at MLK and Hilry Huckaby on Friday evening has turned into a fatality.

Ruby Brown, 62, of Hosston died after being taken to LSU Hospital for critical injuries after the 5:15 p.m. accident.

Brown was headed south on Hilry Huckaby and was driving through the intersection with a green light when she was struck by 65-year-old Sidney Monroe of Shreveport, who was headed west on MLK. Brown was taken to LSU Hospital, and Monroe was transported to the Traffic Bureau where he submitted to a breath test and was declared legally drunk.

Monroe was booked into the city jail and charged with DWI and first degree negligent injuries. However, that charge will now be upgraded to vehicular homicide.
