K-9 gets new Technology

 Shreveport Police Department's K-9 Unit has gotten more technologically advanced, thanks to the donations of GPS systems for patrol cars.

Woodsmen of the World donated money for 7 of 10 units to be installed into cars. Donations from the community funded the purchase of another 3 units, which completed the outfitting of all K-9 patrol cars.

Each GPS system cost $104, which puts the donations valued at over $1,000 worth of equipment.

Many times, K-9s and their handlers are depended upon to get to a scene very quickly to catch suspects who are on the run. The GPS systems will help K-9 officers get to scenes in the quickest manner possible. The systems will especially be helpful if an officer with the GPS system is called to an area in which he or she is not familiar.
