Two arrested in baby death

Shreveport police arrested two people about midnight today after they were indicted by a Caddo Parish grand jury for the murder of their infant child.

Emmanuel Scott, 19, of Shreveport and Tiffany Woods, 26, of Shreveport are both charged with second-degree murder of a five-month old boy. The boy died Nov. 27, 2005, at home in the 4900 block of Ralph Place. The infant moved to Shreveport with his family from New Orleans following Hurricane Katrina. The child had been born prematurely and was not under a doctor's care while in New Orleans.

No action was taken against the parents at the time of the baby's death pending an autopsy and futher investigation. The Caddo Parish District Attorney's office took the case to the grand jury, which returned the indictment on Sept. 12.

According to the DA's office, the child in this case was NEVER under a doctor's care in New Orleans, even though that is the story they gave to detectives at the time of his death. The baby died of malnutrition. According to the DA's office, the baby essentially starved to death.
