Man arrested for Aggravated Rape

Shreveport Police have charged a man with one count of aggravated rape and one count of attempted aggravated rape for separate incidents that occurred in June of 2005 and July of 2006 in the 3800 and 3900 blocks of Linwood.

Willie Volson, 58, of Shreveport is being held in the Caddo Correctional Center on a $1 million bond.

The Sex Crimes Unit was investigating two sexual assaults that occurred in the same area, with the same MO, over a period of a year. A detailed description was put out to patrol officers, and on Sept. 15, two observant officers located Volson in the same area as the rapes. At that time, he was arrested for failure to register as a sex offender.

Further investigation led to Sex Crimes Unit detectives to get an arrest warrant on Volson for the two crimes in question. In each case, Volson reportedly grabbed his female victims, drug them to a vacant area and assaulted them. In the 2005 case, he attempted to rape a 51-year-old woman, and in 2006 he succeeded in raping a 25-year-old woman. In both cases, the females were walking on Linwood either to or from jobs between 3 and 5 a.m. 

Patrol officers did an outstanding job recognizing the similarities between the crimes and getting good enough descriptions from the victims to identify him.
