Pedestrian killed on North Market

Shreveport Police are investigating a fatal accident involving an 11-year-old girl chasing a soccer ball across North Market Street.

The accident occurred at 7:20 a.m. as 32-year-old Jerry Scott of Shreveport was driving southbound on North Market.

The girl, Samantha Johnson, was playing soccer and retrieving a ball when she ran into Scott's 2000 Nissan Pathfinder, which swerved to try to avoid her but could not.

The impact killed Johnson at the scene. She was a fifth grader at North Highlands Elementary School.

No charges are pending at this time.
