Robber caught in act by police

The Shreveport Police Department Armed Robbery Task Force thwarted a robbery in progess late last night.

Agent L.J. Scott was wearing clearly marked SPD attire inside the Valero gas station in the 8800 block of Jewella Avenue about 11:20 p.m. when Derek Pierson Jr., 21, of Stockton, California entered the store with a mask covering his face and demanded money.

He apparently didn't notice Agent Scott, who was standing about 10 feet behind him. Agent Scott ordered the robber to show his hands, at which time the robber did. Agent Scott then took the man's handgun from him and took him into custody.

Pierson was charged with armed robbery with a firearm and booked into the Shreveport City Jail.
