Fatal accident on Bert Kouns

A 33-year-old woman died in a head-on collision with a transport truck this afternoon in the 5800 block of the Bert Kouns Industrial Loop.

Erika Newton, who had just moved to Shreveport with her fiancee', reportedly was eastbound on Bert Kouns when she drove her 1999 Olds Intrigue off the shoulder and then over-corrected the vehicle. The vehicle slid across the median and struck a Tango Transport truck driven by Marvin Porter, 45, of Shreveport. 

Newton died at the scene, and Porter was transported to LSU Hospital with possible to moderate injuries.

The accident is under investigation. No charges are expected to be filed.
