One arrested after allegedly shooting at police

UPDATE: THE OFFICER IN THIS CASE IS OFFICER MATTHEW CHILDS. HE'S BEEN ON THE DEPARTMENT SINCE AUG. 1, 2005. HE'S ON PAID LEAVE PENDING AN INVESTIGATION INTO THE SHOTS FIRED.

Shreveport Police arrested an attempted robbery suspect and later fired at a Shreveport Police Officer.

Clarence Taylor III, 32, of Shreveport was captured by a police K-9 hiding under a home in the 500 block of Lawrence Street. He reportedly ran and hid under the house after firing at an officer. The officer was trying to stop him in connection with an earlier robbery attempt at a convenience store.

At 4:50 p.m., the suspect entered the Citgo Station in the 1000 block of Louisiana and pointed a weapon at the clerk. As the man was demanding money, two clerks in the store reportedly pulled their own weapons, causing the suspect to flee the scene.

After more than an hour of canvassing the area, a Shreveport police officer spotted the person believed to be the suspect in the robbery walking on Lawrence near Milam Street. As the officer attempted to stop him, the suspect reportedly turned toward the officer and fired his weapon. The officer returned fire, but the suspect ran away. No one was struck by gunfire.

A K-9 unit responded and was able to locate the suspect under the house. The K-9 bit the suspect, who had to be treated at the scene by the Shreveport Fire Department. The weapon was recovered under the house.

The suspect has been charged with attempted first-degree murder, attempted robbery and convicted felon in possession of a firearm.
