Police investigate officer-involved shooting

Shreveport Police Department is investigating the death of a 34-year-old Shreveport man who exchanged gunfire with police officers late Tuesday night.

Kashiwa Pineset died as a result of gunshot wounds he received on W. 77th Street near Linwood Avenue. The shooting occurred shortly after 10:30 p.m.

While detectives are still trying to piece together what happened, it is believed that Pineset exited a vehicle armed with an assault-style rifle and confronted three Shreveport police officers. Pineset and the officers exchanged gunfire, and Pineset received at least one fatal gunshot wound. None of the officers were injured, although a Shreveport police vehicle received several bullet holes.

Just prior to the shooting, the officers were attempting to conduct a traffic stop on an older-model Oldsmobile Delta 88, in which Pineset was a passenger. Pineset was wanted on an arrest warrant for aggravated battery in the July 2006 shooting of Reginald Jackson. Jackson, then age 26, was shot in his side during the incident that occurred in the 200 block of W. 86th Street. A second warrant for violation of probation had also been issued for Pineset by Louisiana Probation and Parole.

In addition to the outstanding warrants, police wanted to question Pineset about a double shooting that occurred Monday night in the 200 block of W. 78th Street. During that incident, the suspect was talking to the victims and then pulled a weapon and began firing shots. Anthony Tillman, 28, and Anthony’s 20-year-old brother, LaBonta Tillman, received multiple gunshot wounds. Both victims fled the scene and were later located and taken to LSU Hospital. They are currently recovering from their injuries.

The three officers involved in Tuesday night’s shooting have been placed on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure in officer-involved shootings.

The investigation continues.
