Woman identified in last night fatal wreck
The woman who was struck and killed last night on I-49 has been identified as Valerie G. Frederick, a black female, DOB 02/07/1969, from Shreveport
Patrol officers were called out to a Major Crash involving a pedestrian and a car at I-49 Southbound @ Kings Hwy. According to officers at the scene, the driver of the vehicle Horace D. Boles, a white male DOB 01/02/1936 from Keithville struck Frederick as he was traveling southbound on I-49.
Boles stated that he and his wife were driving South on I-49 when he suddenly heard an "explosion." He stated he did not see anything or anyone in the roadway. Boles stated that he pulled to the right shoulder and stopped. It was then Boles discovered he had struck Fredericks.
Frederick was in a vehicle which had been traveling Northbound on I-49. The vehicle had broken down.
At the time the vehicle had broken down, there were two other people in the vehicle with Frederick. One of the passengers stated that he got a ride with one of the MAP vans to his residence.
The other person with Frederick had walked to the Valero gas station on Kings at Samford. Frederick departed the vehicle and crossed the northbound side of I-49 and was attempting to cross the southbound lanes when she was struck the Boles' vehicle.
Frederick arrived at LSUHSC at approximately 10:48pm and was pronounced deceased at three minutes later.
No charges are pending on Mr. Boles. Mr. Boles was brought to Selective Enforcement where he took a Breathalyzer test.
One of the occupant's in the vehicle which Frederick's was riding in, Jimmy Hampton, was detained at LSUHSC by LSUHSC police officers for disturbing the peace.
LSUHSC officers notified SPD that he was detained. Hampton was brought to the police station for questioning about the crash.
Hampton had two outstanding bench warrants and was arrested for same. The Investigation continues.
