Two officers to receive Bravery Medals
Shreveport Police Officer Freddie Clinton and Cpl. Joshua Feliciano will be awarded the J. Edgar Hoover Medal for Bravery at a banquet this weekend hosted by the Louisiana Division of the Sons of Confederate Veterans.
The banquet will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday, May 5, at the Clarion Hotel located in southeast Shreveport during the organization's annual division reunion.
The medal is recognized and authorized by the Sons of Confederate Veterans International Headquarters in Columbia, Tennessee. It is a very prestigious award given only to the bravest of peace officers who risk their lives in the line of duty.
The officers were chosen to receive the medal because of an incident that occurred nearly a year ago -- May 17, 2006 -- at the corner of Doris and Broadway. Suspect Raymond Darnell was trying to shoot his girlfriend when Officer Clinton got into a gun battle with him. Cpl. Feliciano arrived on the scene and shot Darnell, who survived his injuries and was later convicted and sentenced to 150 years in prison for the incident.
The media is invited to cover this event.
