Kidnapping arrest

Shreveport Police Department has arrested and charged a Haughton man with fourth offense DWI, simple kidnapping and first-degree vehicular negligent injurying for an incident that occurred Monday evening.

Brandon Montelbano, 31, was reportedly taking a 5-year-old boy to the store with him in a 1979 Ford Pickup truck without permission from the boy's mother. Montelbano, who is the nephew of the mother's boyfriend, would not stop despite the mother following them in a car. Instead, he reportedly sped up and ignored traffic signals.

Witnesses stated that Montelbano ran a traffic light at East Olive and Youree, striking a 2006 Chevy pickup driven by Craig Johnson, 33, of Shreveport at a high rate of speed. Johnson received a few cuts, but the boy had to be transported to LSU Hospital, where he suffered a broken leg and head injuries. Montelbano was taken to the hospital for  

Montelbano was also transported to LSUHSC with possible injuries. He was later booked into the Shreveport City Jail on charges of first-degree negligent injuring, DWI fourth offense with child endangerment and simple kidnapping.

The 5-year-old was not restrained at the time of the crash. He is currently in fair condition at LSU Hospital.
