Two more arrested after officer-involved shooting

Shreveport Police arrested two more people in connection with a carjacking and shooting early Sunday.

Besides 22-year-old Alonzo Williams, Shreveporters Billy Stewart, 21, and Charmicheal Howard, 33, also have been arrested and charged with crimes related to the incident.

According to reports, Williams and Stewart allegedly carjacked a Nissan Altima in the 3200 block of Lakeshore Drive about 6 a.m. Sunday. Less than two hours later, Officer Angie Willhite located the vehicle at a grocery store in the 2300 block of Alabama Street. When Williams saw the police car, he fled from the officer. He ended up wrecking the car at Alabama and West College streets.

When Williams got out of the car, he reportedly fired shots at Officer Willhite. Officer Willhite returned fire, striking Williams at least twice. Williams ran about four blocks and was captured by several officers. He was taken to LSU Hospital with non life-threatening injuries. He is currently charged with attempted first-degree murder and armed robbery.

In the course of the investigation, detectives learned that Williams threw down the gun after he was shot. Before police could secure the crime scene, Howard allegedly took the suspect’s gun and kept it.

Police later found Howard and the weapon. The gun has now been entered as evidence in the case. Meanwhile, Howard was charged with obstruction, and Stewart was charged with armed robbery in connection with the carjacking.
