Boy killed while crossing street

Shreveport police are investigating a fatal crash that killed a 9-year-old boy on North Market Street this afternoon.

The child, whose name is not being released at this time, died at LSU Hospital about 3:47 p.m. today.

The boy was air-lifted to the hospital from the 4600 block of North Market after being hit by a white and blue Ford pickup truck. The truck was headed southbound on North Market when the boy reportedly ran out in front of him.

The truck struck the child, who landed on the shoulder of the highway. Two other boys who were attempting to cross the street with the victim were not injured.

The incident occurred about 2:40 p.m. this afternoon. No charges have been filed against the driver of the pickup truck, identified as 52-year-old Hubert Small of Shreveport.
