Officer involved shooting update
At about 7:25 p.m. Saturday night, Shreveport Police dispatchers received a call from a distraught citizen in the 5900 block of Lexington Street. According to the caller, a man in that area was armed with a gun and threatening to harm himself. Dispatchers directed officers to the area to check on the man's well being.
Officer Sarah Dewitt arrived on the scene at 7:32 p.m. in an effort to contact the man. Within minutes, she reported shots fired and requested emergency medical assistance at the scene. Members of the Shreveport Fire Department responded to the scene and transported the man to LSU Medical Center. The man, identified as Tony Dill, a white male, age 57, was pronounced dead at the hospital.
Detectives have interviewed several witnesses who were present during the event. Anyone who has additional information or may have witnessed the shooting is asked to contact the Shreveport Police Department at 673-6955. Officer Sarah Dewitt, a five year veteran with the Shreveport Police Department was not injured. She is currently on paid administrative leave pending the completion of the investigation. This is a police department policy for any officer involved in a shooting.
