Teen shooting suspect taken into custody

A 16-year-old male juvenile who shot a female teen in the face in the 400 block of E. 81st Street has been charged with illegal use of a weapon.

The suspect reportedly was showing the 16-year-old female the small-caliber weapon when it discharged, striking the female in the cheek. The incident occurred about 6:50 p.m. Monday night.

The female was taken to LSU Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
