Police friendly day

The Shreveport Police Department's Community Oriented Policing Bureau will be hosting "Police Friendly Day" at a couple of events this week at local city parks.

Police Friendly Day is an effort to teach children that officers are good people who help them in times of trouble. Too many times, children are afraid of officers in uniform.

On both days, officers will read to children and give them stuffed animals, as well as make friends with many of the local kids in the areas in which they work.

The events will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday (July 31) at A.B. Palmer Park, 547 E. 79th Street, and at 10 a.m. Thursday (Aug. 2) at Sunset Park, 6700 Quilen.
