Police Pastor ride-along

About a dozen members of the Shreveport Police Pastor Program will be riding with SPD officers today during a mass ride along in commemoration of the program's 7th anniversary.

The pastors will attend a 3 p.m. roll call with officers, and then will pair up with officers and ride along with the officers during their shifts.

Police pastors regularly ride with officers, but only 1 or 2 usually ride on any given shift.

Besides the today's mass ride along, pastors will celebrate their anniversary month by hosting a Youth Activity Day on Aug. 18 at A.B. Palmer Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and features activities and games for the children.

The anniversary will culminate with a ceremony and worship service at 6 p.m. Aug. 26 at Linwood Baptist Church, located at Linwood and Midway Avenue. The church's pastor, Dr. Edwardo Gonzalez -- who is also a Police Pastor -- will preside over the service.
