National Night out Kick-off location
Mayor Cedric Glover and Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn will kick off National Night Out at Mt. Olive Baptist Church, 740 Turner Lane, at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7.
This is the 24th year for the national event, which is aimed at preventing crime throughout America.
National Night Out is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and co-sponsored by the Shreveport Police Department. This year's event involves more than 10,750 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases around the world.
In all, over 34.8 million people are expected to participate in "America's Night Out Against Crime."
More than 150 events are scheduled throughout the City of Shreveport from 6 to 9 p.m. on National Night Out. These events include block parties, neighborhood cookouts, parades, contests, youth activities and anti-crime and anti-drug rallies.
