FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Former Mr. Olympia comes to Shreveport
Eight-time Mr. Olympia Lee Haney will be in Shreveport Tuesday to announce his involvement with Fit for Life Day and Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation in Shreveport.
Haney, who lives in Atlanta, is a long-time supporter of children's fitness and getting fit for life. When learning about the local effort, Haney decided to get on board with the fitness movement in the South.
Haney reigned as Mr. Olympia from 1984 to 1991 -- breaking the record of seven consecutive wins held by now-California Govenor Arnold Schwarzenegger.
"The road getting there wasn't easy. It took hard work, delayed gratification, and above all a lot of prayer," Haney states on his website.
Haney and Fit for Life Inc. Founder Robert "Super-Mann" Blount trained together for seven years during Haney's reign as Mr. Olympia. Over the years, they have stayed friends and fitness associates.
Haney's goals mirror those of Fit for Life Inc. and Shreveport Public Assembly and Recreation. So, it was not difficult for Haney to endorse and support the local effort to build and maintain strong minds and bodies.
Besides his work in body building and nutrition, Haney served as Chairman of the President's Council on Physical Fitness and Sports under President Bill Clinton.
Haney has not only agreed to endorse Fit for Life Inc., he also is expected to accept an invitation to become a member of its Executive Board of Directors.
Fit for Life Inc. is a non-profit organization designed to address the serious issues of childhood obesity and health awareness for the State of Louisiana.
A news conference with Haney will take place at 3 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 7, at SPAR's Wildwood Recreation Center, located at 7401 Jewella Avenue.
