Motorcycle accident on Shreveport-Barksdale

Shreveport police arrested a suspected drunk driver after the car the woman was driving struck and critically injured a motorcyclist.

The crash occurred on Shreveport-Barksdale Highway at Quail Creek about 12:45 a.m. Henry Schwanke, 61, of Bossier City was on his motorcycle stopped for a red light when a 2001 Volkswagon Passat struck him from behind. Schwanke was ejected from his motorcycle and suffered head injuries. He was taken to LSU Hospital where he is in critical condition. He was wearing a "brain bucket" helmet, which may have prevented him from further injuries.

Meanwhile, police noticed a smell of alcohol on the driver of the Passat, 30-year-old Mary Brown of Shreveport. Blood was drawn, and Brown was arrested and charged with first-offense DWI and first-degree negligent injuring.
