Police and Fire memorial news conference

At 10 a.m. Wednesday morning (Aug. 15), the Shreveport Police and Fire departments and members of the Police and Fire Memorial Committee will accept a donation from the River Bend Rotary Club in the amount of $1,500.

This donation comes at a time when police officers throughout Northern Louisiana are mourning the loss of two officers killed in the line of duty in Bastrop.

It is senseless murders like these that make serving in law enforcement bittersweet. It is fortunate that caring members of the Rotary Club put forth the effort hold a golf tournament that helped raise the funds to keep up the Shreveport memorial site, which honors local police officers and firefighters killed in the line of duty.

The Shreveport Police and Firefighters Memorial was built in 1999. The Memorial is a permanent reminder of their ultimate contribution to public safety and their sincere desire to serve the citizens of Shreveport.

The Police and Firefighters Memorial is located in Barnwell Gardens south of the R.S. Barnwell Memorial Garden and Art Center, across from the Civic Theatre on Clyde Fant Parkway.

Please join the departments at the site at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 15, as they thank the Rotary Club for their support.
