Suspect sought in Sprague Street Shooting

Shreveport Police are looking for John L. Sims, who is wanted for Sunday's second-degree murder of Reece James "Congo" Maxie III. He is a black male, 39 years old, 5'9" tall and 215 pounds. His address is listed as the 100 block of Pierre.

Shreveport Police are looking for information regarding a shiny mustard yellow-colored pickup truck that may have been used in a homicide on Sprague Street last night.

Reece James "Congo" Maxie III, 18, of Shreveport was shot and killed by a man with whom he was arguing in the 1300 block of Sprague Street about 7 p.m. 

According to witnesses, a black male in his 40's exchanged words with Maxie and said he would be back. About 10 minutes later, the man returned in the older-model yellow truck with another person. He then exchanged words again with Maxie and then pulled out a weapon and shot him.

Maxie was taken to LSU Hospital where he died of his injuries.

Meanwhile, the suspect is described to be about 5'6" tall with a goatee and medium build. He was driving an older-model pickup truck that had a shiny yellow paint job. It is unknown what make or model the truck is.
