News conference this afternoon

Shreveport Mayor Cedric Glover and Chief of Police Henry Whitehorn will host a press conference immediately following a Criminal Justice Meeting being held with numerous local, state and federal law enforcement and court officials.

The news conference will be held at 4 p.m. in the Sky Box at Independence Stadium.

This meeting is Round 2 of a brainstorming session that was initiated by Mayor Glover shortly after he took office. At that time, Assistant Chief Mike VanSant was acting as interim Chief.

The group will be discussing how to better fight crime in the area, and looking at initiatives that could be used to further reduce crime. In the meeting is expected to be city and district court judges, federal law enforcement officials, state and local law enforcment, as well as school board security and juvenile court officials.

About 15 minutes before the news conference, there will be an opportunity to get video of the group meeting. The news conference will then start at 4 p.m.
