FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Second hand dealer cited

Shreveport police have issued a citation to the manager of Game Stop in the 7100 block of Youree Drive for not reporting purchases of games and other items with the Law Enforcement Automated Database Search (LEADS On Line).

A city ordinance requires all businesses who deal with second-hand merchandise to report the transactions to LEADS On Line via the Internet. While pawn shops and salvage yards are the most wide-recognized businesses who report to Leads Online, the city law applies to all second-hand dealers.

The businesses reporting to LEADS On Line were inconsistent. After repeated warnings to report all transactions, Detective Roger Courtney cited the business, which must appear in court at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 6 to answer to the charges.

Thieves who steal video games and gaming equipment oftentimes use second-hand businesses to cash in the items they steal. That is the reason it is so important for the transactions to be reported to Leads On Line.

Information can be left with crimestoppers at 673-7373 or by logging onto the crimestoppers website at www.crimestoppersshreveportcaddo.com.
